COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beaumont Animal Care and two partner shelters have put 150 dogs and cats into new homes during the Clear the Shelters campaign by offering a $20 adoption fee that covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and more+ the month-long event remains open for walk-in adoptions with on-site paperwork completed during regular business hours.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont Animal Care has nine pets on its urgent list that may be euthanized if they are not adopted soon as part of the Clear the Shelters initiative— the shelter is offering a $20 adoption fee that covers spaying/neutering, microchipping, and initial care, and visitors can adopt during regular business hours without an appointment.  12 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man and a woman who sped past a deputy and crashed near MCM Elegante today—officers are checking the Blossom neighborhood along Washington Boulevard after the suspects bailed from their vehicle near I-10 and Cardinal Drive.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday morning, TxDOT reported that traffic on westbound I-10 slowed to 10–25 mph between College and the U.S. 69 interchange in Beaumont—drivers also experienced delays on the U.S. 69 ramp due to overturned construction barrels and a recently patched pothole near the Washington Boulevard exit.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Clarke Baker, a Beaumont father whose 8-year-old daughter was one of 27 who died in the Camp Mystic flood, testified before a Texas Senate committee and urged lawmakers to enforce mandatory camp safety protocols—such as relocating cabins away from floodprone areas—to prevent future tragedies.  12 News Now
  • A federal judge stopped Texas from requiring every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments, saying the law violates the First Amendment—Dallas-area families and faith leaders filed the suit before it takes effect on Sept. 1.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont city leaders recently completed a Harvard training program through the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative — mayor Roy West, city manager Kenneth Williams, and assistant city manager June Ellis used the yearlong course to gain new tools for solving urban challenges and improving local services. They also joined a Johns Hopkins program to boost water utilities data practices and reduce sewer overflows.  Beaumont Enterprise
