CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont Police arrested 40-year-old Eric J. Gipson Sr. on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. after DNA evidence linked him to four cold cases of sexual assault and indicted him on charges of aggravated sexual assault (first-degree felony) and sexual assault (second-degree felony) as investigators work with the Texas Rangers Division. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont ISD unveiled a plan to boost school performance after receiving a district-wide D grade and F ratings at seven schools on the STAAR test. Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen said the plan will use Bluebonnet Curriculum, small group instruction, and leadership coaching — and the district needs community support while the state considers a takeover. - ➤ Beaumont ISD is serving free breakfast and lunch to all its students under the state’s Community Eligibility Provision program; 71% of students qualify due to severe need. The free meal program will expand statewide on September 1 and will partner with local hospitals in January to promote healthy eating — an effort aiding districts with food deserts. 12 News Now

- ➤ Flood relief is coming to a Beaumont West End neighborhood after the city approved an agreement with Drainage District 6 Tuesday to add a storm sewer system for flooding-prone streets. The district expects construction to start in three months and be finished within two months—blocking one lane and costing no money to residents. 12 News Now
- ➤ Beaumont city officials proposed a bond issue to fund a new fire station after Chief Earl White said the 71-year-old station at Lucas and Gladys is too small and outdated with rising maintenance costs (97 open work orders and $54,000 in repairs since 2020). Voters will decide on the bond issue on November 4, and the new station will cost about $6.5M to house two engines and enhance firefighter safety. KFDM
