COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beaumont Animal Care is partnering with 12News to offer $20 adoptions until Saturday, August 30 as part of its Clear the Shelters campaign—while the shelter cares for 130 animals and has recorded over 80 adoptions this August, staff stress the need for more adopters and foster families.  12 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The first hearing in a wrongful death lawsuit took place yesterday in Beaumont after Denise Coleman fell from a balcony at Virginia Flats Apartments on December 3 when a guardrail failed — attorney Cade Bernsen is now pushing ITEX and Virginia Flats to release key documents as the trial will be held in August next year.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men—Jiexi Fan and Zhenxiang Yang—remain in Jefferson County Jail after Beaumont police caught them in a live scam that cost a Brentwood resident $20,000 and triggered an attempted extortion for an extra $30,000 at his home.  12 News Now
  • A jury in Judge Raquel West's courtroom is hearing testimony in the trial of Jesus Ibarra, accused of Felony Stalking after a victim said his unwanted visits at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital grew worse over time—he faces 2—10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000 if convicted.  KFDM
  • Armando Olvera, 29, pleaded guilty in court for leaving the scene of a fatal crash on December 22, 2021 near Hamshire when his intoxicated dump truck hit a Toyota SUV that killed Jessica Robin—he now faces 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Police Chief Tim Ocnaschek said the current 1971 station—built for a smaller force and lacking basic amenities like women's locker rooms, ADA access and modern technology—is no longer effective for Beaumont's needs. Voters will decide in November on a bond proposal that could fund a modern, consolidated police headquarters to serve the community for the next 20 to 30 years.  12 News Now
