In Beaumont, residents sought shelter—some leaving for hotels as outages disrupted routines and urged families to plan ahead for future storms.
After Tropical Storm Edouard, refineries in Port Arthur and chemical plants in Beaumont and Orange reported events that released roughly 53,000 lbs of emissions, and a strong gas odor was noted nearby.
Officials say companies used engineering estimates & process adjustments to manage emissions without any confirmed violations.

After Tropical Storm Edouard brought ample rain, Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick has lifted the burn ban — effective immediately — for unincorporated areas including Nome, China, Bevil Oaks and Taylor Landing.
Beaumont solid waste crews are working extended hours to clear storm debris and collect regular trash after Tropical Storm Edouard.
Regular routes resumed Wednesday and crews will work Friday and Saturday to restore service + heavy trash pickups may be delayed through next week.
