Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation will honor Southeast Texas first responders, veterans and active-duty military at its 25th annual Salute to the Real American Heroes event on Thursday, Sept.

10 at 6 p.m. at Beaumont Civic Center, featuring dinner, a presentation of colors and tributes to local heroes.

The Southeast Texas Fishing Classic will be held on Pleasure Island to connect young anglers with mentors and support youth scholarships — a program designed to help kids learn and grow.

The event will bring the local community together in a friendly, educational competition.

Applications are now open for Texas A&M Forest Service's Invasive Plant Solutions Cost-Share Program that will reimburse eligible property owners and organizations for 75% of invasive plant treatment costs (up to $7,000 per landowner) using mechanical, chemical, or prescribed fire methods. Approved work must be completed by June 1, while funds last.

Texas A&M Forest Service offers cost-share reimbursements to help property owners pay for removing invasive plants.

Eligible landowners and organizations can apply now to receive up to $7,000 (75% of approved treatment costs) before funding runs out and treatments are completed by June 1.
