- ➤ The Public Utility Commission approved Entergy Texas' plan to build two new natural gas power plants that will add 1,200 MW to the grid by mid-2028. The Legend Power Station in Port Arthur and the Lone Star Power Station near Cleveland will power over 300,000 homes and create more than 9,000 construction jobs. 12 News Now

- ➤ On Saturday morning, locals celebrated early Hispanic Heritage Month in Beaumont with a cabalgata featuring riders on horses, 4-wheelers, cars and hay trailers to honor Mexico's Independence Day on September 16 (a tradition rooted in Mexican charrería). Organizers from Migrantes Hidalgo and Rancho Los Ramirez said the event included tambora music, a flag bearer and a ribbon race called carrera de cintas that tied cultural pride to tradition. 12 News Now

- ➤ Port Arthur Memorial High School has a new principal, Angel Murphy, who is determined to improve student performance and change the school’s low ratings—she plans to enforce a stricter teacher dress code and boost support programs for at-risk students.
