COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beaumont business owners raised concerns at a recent city council meeting about the homeless population that has more than doubled in two years and is harming local operations. City council is taking public input while a nonprofit works on measures to keep the homeless off business areas — owners fear rising repair costs and lost customers.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Today, Raising Cane's on College Street, Dowlen Road and Farm Road 365 across from Port Arthur Mall in Beaumont will donate 15% of proceeds when customers mention 'Make-A-Wish' from 3 to 9 p.m.—helping fulfill the wishes of critically ill children as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  Beaumont Enterprise

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • West Brook High School senior Xzaiver Diego Alday, 18 and loved for his passion for fishing, died after his pickup truck collided with another vehicle on Sunday on the MLK Bridge on Highway 82 near Pleasure Island—his family and school community now mourn his loss while a taco fundraiser is set for Friday with visitation on September 19th and a funeral service scheduled for Saturday at Gospel Tabernacle.  KFDM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The McFaddin-Ward House Museum will kick off its fall lecture series on Thursday by hosting a free lecture on Howard Hughes' film career, presented by museum executive director Jeffrey Richardson. Doors open at 6 p.m. — the lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. at 1906 Calder.  12 News Now
  • Boss Lady Books is hosting a local author festival in Lumberton City Park on Nov. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature 25 authors from Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana — where readers can meet the writers and shop for books.  Beaumont Enterprise

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Texas’ statewide early teal hunting season begins Sept. 20 and will last nine days—shortened from 16 days—due to declining blue-winged teal numbers noted in recent surveys. Hunters must hold a 2025 license, migratory bird endorsement, hunter education, and a Federal Duck Stamp to participate.  Beaumont Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Beaumont Professional Firefighters Union said they were left out of the repair and upgrade talks for Fire Station 4 as voters will soon decide on Proposition B this fall. Union president Jeff Nesom argued that stations 7, 8 and 10 need updates too — a point city leaders did not include in their bond recommendations.  12 News Now
  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced new hunting regulations for the 2025—26 season—introducing fully digital licenses and revised dates for mule deer, quail and migratory game birds. The mule deer season will start on Sept. 27 with separate archery and general hunts scheduled.  Beaumont Enterprise

  • Enterprise’s local power rankings show six football teams remain unbeaten at 3-0, and Silsbee will travel to Beaumont Friday for a big game against West Brook—adding pressure early in Week 4.
