  • The Junior League of Beaumont served more than 100 volunteers on Saturday as part of International Find the Good Day—helping at Stable Spirits, Hope Resource Center, and the Humane Society while president Sarah Wells said the event encourages everyone in Southeast Texas to show kindness.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont Police Officer Cesar Beattie holds monthly Spanish-language presentations to address community topics like mental health and crime statistics and build trust between police and residents (presentations are tailored to community requests). The next meeting will be held on Sept 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.  12 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Family and friends honored 19-year-old Jasmine Batiste—killed Sept. 17 when her car was hit head-on by a suspected drunk driver on Washington Boulevard—as police charged 47-year-old Lajanara Stevenson with intoxication manslaughter while funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT says work on Beaumont's I-10/U.S. 69 interchange project continues with lane closures set to remain until fall as crews begin replacing the old storm sewer drain with large box culverts on the I-10 west frontage road. Drivers will be detoured through a signalized intersection between Gladys and south of Laurel — ensuring safer travel during the construction.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • The City of Beaumont is exploring new strategies to reduce homelessness, which may include relocating homeless individuals to the Dream Center— a faith-based nonprofit off Highway 69— and moving other support agencies to an industrial area as business owners raised concerns in a recent council meeting. City leaders will soon meet with these organizations to decide if the relocation is feasible.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • First Nederland Baptist Church is launching a free 13-week grief support program for kids, teens, and adults that will run from October 13 to February 9 with Monday meetings from 6:00—7:30 at the church in Nederland.   • Local high school football teams in Southeast Texas will play games on Friday—Beaumont United faces Jasper at 7:30 p.m. and an unbeaten contest pits Silsbee against West Brook—while many schools take a bye week before district play begins.  Beaumont Enterprise
