COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The first ever Nature Explorers Extravaganza will kick off Saturday, September 20th at Tyrrell Park Nature & Visitor Center in Beaumont. The free event will offer interactive crafts, a wetland experiment, community mural painting, a free yoga class from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — and food trucks serving tasty bites.  KFDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old West Brook High School senior—Xzaiver Diego Alday—died in a pickup truck crash on MLK Bridge on Highway 82 to Pleasure Island on Sunday, and the other driver was hurt and taken to a hospital.  FOX 4 Beaumont

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new Speakeasy will open on Orleans Street in downtown Beaumont to honor Southeast Texas history with live music, themed event nights, and Western Victorian decor. Co-owners Jeremy Hawa and his wife Shanna will partner with local restaurants for food service and hope the venue will inspire further downtown investment—strengthening the local cultural scene.  12 News Now
  • The Symphony of Southeast Texas will open its 73rd season tomorrow at the Julie Rogers Theatre with a Latin-inspired concert that features works by Arturo Márquez and Joaquín Rodrigo—blending Mexican, Spanish and Cuban rhythms and including a Grammy Award-winning guitarist along with a mariachi group in the lobby.  12 News Now
  • Joan Son's exhibit 'Part Geometry-Part Zen: Paperworks and Contemporary Origami' is on view at Dishman Art Museum through Oct.31 and will have a free reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors can explore creative paper dresses and origami art that mix geometry with Zen — a blend that shows the artist's lifelong passion — inviting everyone to enjoy this unique display.  Beaumont Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Beaumont ISD is set to receive a donation of Ten Commandments posters today as required by new state law. Shilo Platts will deliver the posters to the administration building, and Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen said the district will follow Senate Bill 10—while keeping its focus on student education.  KFDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Birders in Beaumont reported a rare double-striped thick-knee spotted Sunday on private land near Nixon after a local family alerted a birding group—this marks the first sighting in Texas since 1961 and spurred a statewide search for further sightings.  Beaumont Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont residents have demanded a traffic light at the intersection off Highway 105 and RFD Road as heavy traffic causes cars to back up for up to 15 minutes during rush hour. Public Works officials said the city will reevaluate the signal requirements with new developments and growing traffic.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jefferson County Precinct 4 will host its 22nd free health fair tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cathedral Faith Baptist Church on Fannett Road—offering free screenings and services for uninsured residents.  12 News Now
  • Christus Health unveiled a new simulation center at St. Elizabeth to train clinicians in real health care scenarios using high-fidelity mannequins and five specialized rooms for emergency, intensive care, and labor teams. The center opened Wednesday and was funded by nearly $1.3 million — including a $50,000 investment from the Children’s Miracle Network Making Miracles Happen Fund.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Beaumont Public Health inspected school and child care cafeterias between August 25th and September 5th and found nearly all scored high, with many earning perfect marks—minor issues like water-damaged ceiling tiles and pest sightings were corrected on-site.  Beaumont Enterprise
