COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spindletop Center in Beaumont has received donated generators from the Dishman Foundation and YMBL to power four group homes—ensuring essential equipment like electric hospital beds and oxygen machines run during outages and easing concerns for staff and families.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • The City of Beaumont will host its 10th annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 4th at Rogers Park from 3:00pm to 8:00pm—admission is free and families can enjoy live music, polka performances, food trucks, a beer garden, and kid-friendly activities.  FOX 4 Beaumont

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today at 5 p.m., Winnie's 56th annual Texas Rice Festival begins at Winnie Stowell Park to honor the long tradition of local rice farming with live music, complimentary ‘Rice is Life’ t-shirts for the first 1,000 guests, and a barbecue cook-off featuring deep-fried rice balls. Organizers said the four-day event will continue with local artist performances and community scholarships — recognizing local farmers and supporting nonprofits.  12 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Beaumont ISD’s future is in doubt after TEA Commissioner Mike Morath visited three failing campuses — Fehl-Price, Pietzsch-MacArthur and Vincent Middle School, and said a state takeover or board of managers may be considered in the next few months. Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen said the feedback from the visit will guide improvements in school conditions.  12 News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality fined the Motiva refinery in Port Arthur $56,875 for releasing nearly 50,000 pounds of unauthorized emissions in 2022 and Ineos Calabrian in Port Neches $21,875 for water discharge violations in 2024 — both companies are disputing the charges and Motiva settled to fund a regional air monitoring project.  Beaumont Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont ISD is set to fill a trustee vacancy left by Woodrow Reece’s passing, with the board planning to begin the appointment process at the October meeting—state law requires an interim appointment within 180 days to prevent board deadlocks. The board must also elect a secretary before holding a special election in November 2026.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Beaumont voters will decide on Nov. 4 if an $8.9 million road extension that would extend Pointe Parkway to State Highway 105 in the city's $264 million bond package should be funded—neighbors worry it will bring more traffic and noise while officials say it will spur development.  12 News Now
  • Residents in Beaumont are reminded to set their clocks back at 2 a.m. on Nov. 2 to gain an extra hour and will set them forward at 2 a.m. on March 8 to start daylight saving time (offering longer evenings).  Beaumont Enterprise

  • A first-time mother, Jaycee Morgan, pulled her baby Rowan into the world with help from her midwife Ashleigh Clark at Christus St. Elizabeth hospital on September 30th.   • Local high school football rankings show Port Neches-Groves as No. 1 after a 45—21 win and Port Arthur Memorial as a close second after a 62—0 victory in Beaumont.
