  • Today, local residents can attend the free Fire Festival at the Fire Museum of Texas from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 8 a.m. at the Great Lawn, and enjoy Beaumont Oktoberfest at Rogers Park from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. A free concert series also runs in Nederland with shows starting Thursday and continuing over the weekend.  FOX 4 Beaumont

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont is launching its first Mayor’s Veterans Commission to link local veterans with city leaders—connecting them to vital resources. The launch event is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.—at the Downtown Event Centre where veterans, families, and service organizations will learn more.  Beaumont Enterprise

  • Gift of Life will host its annual 5K Ribbon Run and Monster Dash on October 25th to support cancer education and free screenings for breast, ovarian, prostate, and testicular cancers—services aimed at underserved individuals.  FOX 4 Beaumont

  • Today, Lamar football hosts Nicholls at Provost Umphrey Stadium at 3 p.m.—Lamar rides a three-game win streak with key players including defensive end Andrew Huff, running back Xavier Coleman, and receiver Kyndon Fuselier along with Nicholls’ quarterback Deuce Hogan and receiver Miequle Brock Jr. Nicholls comes off four straight losses and will try to break its losing streak in the conference opener—the matchup is set to shape each team’s season.  Beaumont Enterprise
