- ➤ The Big Thicket National Preserve will celebrate its 51st anniversary with a free festival at Collier's Ferry Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—featuring reptile encounters, kayaking lessons and ferry boat tours—and it aims to teach young people about the park's natural resources. 12 News Now
- ➤ Calzone is a 6-7 week old kitten at Beaumont Animal Care who loves belly rubs and exploring. He was brought in on Oct. 8th (with his siblings already adopted and his mother released after being spayed) and is waiting for a loving home. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Legacy Pharmacy will open next year in Ward Three after residents lost local access to medications when Walgreens and other pharmacies closed. The new store is already offering online deliveries—helping seniors who struggle with transportation. KFDM
- ➤ On November 4, the Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center will hold its biennial conference at the Downtown Event Center in Beaumont to offer education, training and networking for over 160 local nonprofits with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. The event will feature keynote speaker Kenny Lange, breakout sessions on grant writing and funding strategies and a Community Impact Award for Josh Davis from Legacy Community Health. 12 News Now

- ➤ Emily Jolet died in a motorcycle crash near Interstate 10 and South Major Drive in Beaumont last weekend—her grieving parents now care for her two young children as they honor her final wish. 12 News Now
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Lion Elastomers will shut down its Orange plant later this year, affecting about 100 employees—company officials said the decision follows operations since 2019. The firm will keep its Port Neches and Louisiana facilities running. KFDM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A court awarded 32 seized dogs to Beaumont Animal Care from a suspected dog fighting case on Sept. 30—20 puppies have been placed with rescues and 12 adult dogs still need homes. Beaumont Enterprise
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Former Port Arthur Mayor Thurman Bartie will launch his congressional campaign for District 14 next month with a kickoff event at the Holiday Inn Park Central on Jimmy Johnson Boulevard on November 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.—he said he plans to garner bipartisan support and will focus on universal healthcare and aid for those living paycheck to paycheck. - ➤ TxDOT announced that construction crews will begin work Monday on the I-10/U.S. 69 frontage road from Gladys to Laurel in Beaumont, replacing drains with box culverts and closing U-turns for detours—these improvements are expected to last through spring 2027. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Christina Lokey resigned as Beaumont’s Economic Development Manager on October 8 after saying that an environment of ego—negativity and distraction made it difficult for her to serve. She thanked community members for their support and urged residents to work together while city officials have not commented on her departure. KFDM
