  • Girls’ Haven is moving into a new $1.7M building that meets state rules and has a bigger accessible bedroom so the girls can cook with staff and enjoy more natural light — a change that will help their well-being. The building is expected to be ready by Christmas — and the old facility will soon be used by Ehrhart Charter School to add grades from pre-K to 12.  12 News Now
  • Drivers on Beaumont highways face routine rush-hour delays with heavy congestion on U.S. 69 near Fannett Road and between Austin Street and North Street. Interstate-10 westbound sees slowdowns—drivers from Rose City and Vidor will hit extra delays near the I-10 and U.S. 90 interchange.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • St. Anne Catholic School invites families to the 47th Annual Halloween Carnival tomorrow from 11 AM to 4 PM at 375 North 11th Street — the event offers costume contests, pumpkin decorating, games and live music while asking visitors to donate a nonperishable item for Some Other Place and Market to HOPE.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • The Beaumont Police Department is holding a fundraiser—lunch plates at $10 or $12—to support Officer Chad Beitel, who is battling stage 4 melanoma on his liver.   • New owners reopened Popeyes at 2621 U.S. 69 in Nederland on October 22nd, and many customers lined up to order. A store associate said a new location in Bridge City will open within 10 days — the comment was not confirmed by a spokesperson.  Beaumont Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • A documentary about Beaumont’s WWII-era Melody Maids—a group of teenagers who sang for U.S. troops during World War II—will premiere at the Roundtop Film Festival on November 8 at 10 a.m. Producer Kai Jai Connor spent two years developing the 44-minute film, which will feature a post-screening performance by 17 former Melody Maids.  12 News Now

  • Christus Southeast Texas Health System named Jason Miller as vice president of hospital operations at St. Elizabeth. He said his faith in CHRISTUS Health’s mission drove his decision and he will review patient flow to reduce emergency room holds — aiming to improve patient care and staff experience over the next six months.  12 News Now
  • A CHRISTUS physician explained the common signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and stressed the importance of early detection—counseling women to seek timely medical checks if they notice unusual changes.  KFDM
