- ➤ Beaumont food pantries are bracing for more need as many local families risk losing SNAP benefits when they stop on November 1 due to the government shutdown. Some Other Place will give food boxes Monday through Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.—and Catholic Charities will offer curbside help on Tuesday from 3 to 6 and Saturday from 9 to noon—to support those affected. 12 News Now

- ➤ Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will open its new location at 4490 Crow Rd. near Parkdale Mall today—offering a 3,100-square-foot dining area with seating for 66 guests, a patio, drive-thru service, and mobile ordering. The restaurant will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. KFDM

- ➤ Southeast Texas Stages is showing 'Crimes of the Heart,' a tragicomedy by Beth Henley at 4155 Laurel Ave from Oct 24 to Nov 8. The play follows three sisters in Mississippi who reunite after Babe shoots her abusive husband and will appear at 7:30 p.m. on Oct 30, Oct 31 and Nov 1 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov 1 — its minimal kitchen set deepens the look at family tensions. - ➤ Jefferson County lifted its burn ban on Sunday after recent rains dropped the Keech Byrum drought index below 500 (Judge Jeff Branick issued the decision), and he urged residents to burn safely. Residents are advised to continue using caution when burning outside. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ The city of Beaumont announced that the owner of Downtown Lofts has 150 days to fix safety and maintenance issues such as a broken elevator—tenants still report problems with the air conditioner and mold.
