- ➤ Due to the federal shutdown, SNAP benefits will not be issued on November 1, leaving up to 47,000 eligible Texans to rely on local nonprofits and food banks & meal programs like WIC and TANF. - ➤ Downtown Beaumont’s historic Gilbert Building, damaged by a fire on June 6, 2024, is being restored by new owners who bought it from Tom Flanagan. Alliance Engineers submitted a repair permit on September 25 and renovations will turn the 123-year-old structure into office and retail space, with a certificate of occupancy expected by the end of 2026—city officials support the redevelopment through the Neighborhood Empowerment Zone program.
