COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Beaumont Police Department held a barbecue fundraiser to help Officer Chad Beitel with his stage four melanoma treatment and to raise funds for his medical expenses. Sergeant Haley Morrow organized the event (links and boudain were served) and the officer said he feels welcome here (he recently moved from Illinois and his daughter has been embraced by the community).  KFDM

  • After months of construction and speculation, Beaumont’s Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened on Oct 28 near Beaumont Parkdale Mall — the franchise operated by AOM LLC earned praise from local customers for its excellent food and friendly staff.  Beaumont Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • Beaumont couple Jason and Rhonda Halbert turned personal tragedy into a supernatural book series called The Good Guys Chronicles, starting with Caretaker released in May. The second book, Servant, will come out on November 18—more installments are planned for next year.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • The McFaddin-Ward House Museum will open its historic gardens on November 7 for a free outdoor concert by local band Mid-Life Crisis—attendees are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs, and blankets as music begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is funded by the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation and will offer family-friendly activities and convenient parking at the museum’s visitor center.  12 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Steven Beagle was named as the lone finalist to succeed retiring superintendent Stuart Kieschnick by the Nederland ISD board on Wednesday morning. He currently serves as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and will be confirmed after a 21-day waiting period as required by Texas law—his final appointment is expected once that period ends.  12 News Now
  • Some Beaumont ISD teachers will soon earn six-figure salaries with a new state incentive program that rewards performance and offers higher bonuses for schools serving more economically disadvantaged students (current teachers will see increases starting in August 2027 while new hires enroll a year later).  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A mail truck got stuck in a large muddy hole on West Cardinal Drive near Crawford Electric Supply this week, which highlighted long-standing road hazards in a busy Beaumont construction zone. Ward 1 Councilman Cory Crenshaw said he contacted TxDOT, which is working with the contractor to meet on Saturday—steps aimed at reducing the risk of further vehicle damage and crashes.  12 News Now
  • The government shutdown has continued for 29 days—leaving Texas officials warning that SNAP benefits may be halted on Nov. 1 if lawmakers do not pass funding, and local food banks and churches are mobilizing resources to support families in need. This situation affects about 11% of Texans who rely on these benefits.  KFDM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Christus St. Elizabeth has added six nurses to its Trauma One team—bringing the total to 18 who care for 150 to 160 emergency patients daily in Beaumont. Hospital officials said the hospital will add more nurses soon—expanding care for patients with severe injuries.  12 News Now
  • A new minimally invasive procedure is introduced at Seamless Medical Center in southeast Texas and offers fewer health risks and a faster recovery than traditional surgery—CEO Mohammad Rustom discussed the treatment on the noon show.  FOX 4 Beaumont
