  • 12News and the Southeast Texas Food Bank are hosting the 31st Annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive to help feed families amid rising food insecurity caused by a government shutdown and paused SNAP benefits. Del Papa Distributing is donating up to $50,000 in matching funds & donations will be accepted online or at Market Basket stores in Beaumont, Mid-County/Port Arthur and Orange County through the end of December.  12 News Now
  • City workers finished setting up the 26-foot Christmas tree as part of the preparations for the holiday event at the Event Centre on Dec. 3, with food trucks, sledding and a holiday movie on the agenda.   • CASA of Southeast Texas is seeking community help through its annual toy drive and Angel Tree event running until December 5 to collect gifts for foster children; the organization will hold a gift wrapping event from December 8 through December 10 and a Christmas party on December 10—efforts designed to give foster children a merry Christmas.  KFDM
  • On November 15, a new historical marker was dedicated on Crockett Street to honor Pandit Mehar Chand for being one of the first Indians to earn U.S. citizenship.   • Cheek residents met Monday night at a town hall to discuss ExxonMobil’s Rose CCS project — they raised concerns that an 18-mile pipeline and nearby injection wells could affect health, the environment and legal rights. Experts and community leaders explained that the project was fast-tracked by the Railroad Commission and EPA, prompting calls for more study and stronger safety measures.  12 News Now
  • The Enterprise Empty Stocking Fund has already begun its 2025 donation campaign to help local children with toys and food security in Beaumont — it plans to provide over 600 toys and works with local charities to support families.   • Dr. Betty Reynard announced today that she will retire as president of Lamar State College Port Arthur at the end of the fall semester, with her last day set for December 31. Under her leadership since 2014, the college expanded its programs and facilities and secured millions in grants — steps that boosted enrollment and enhanced workforce training.  KFDM
  • The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce has opened registration for a paid internship program that pairs eligible Lamar University students with local businesses for the spring semester, with interest forms due tomorrow, November 19. HEALTH NEWS

  • Jerry Plaster, 80, survived a widow-maker heart attack after receiving 20 minutes of CPR from his 81-year-old friend Brenda Moore and undergoing a six-hour coronary bypass surgery using an arm graft performed endoscopically at Christus St. Elizabeth—he spent 22 days in ICU and is now recovering and ready to resume dancing.  12 News Now
