- ➤ The LIT Foundation will host a free holiday tree lighting event on Dec. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the quad outside the Cecil Beeson Building at 855 E. Lavaca St.—community members can write letters, take photos with Santa, and enjoy holiday crafts, hot cocoa, and cookies. Local school choirs and carolers will provide festive music, and online bidding for a silent wreath auction to benefit student scholarships will run from Nov. 30 until the event ends. - ➤ Butch Arsement, founder of Rockin’ A Café in Beaumont, died last week at 79 from heart failure while surrounded by his family—he spent twenty years feeding both stomachs and spirits and building lasting bonds in the community. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Today, nonprofit Some Other Place in Beaumont is preparing to serve nearly 400 meals to homeless people by offering in-house food for 200 guests and delivering 170 meals through its Meals on Wheels program. 12 News Now
- ➤ Amelia Winters from Beauxart Gardens has created a Blessing Box — the Porchside Pantry — to help local families put food on the table by offering non-perishable items and baked goods during the holiday season. The northbound lane on Pine Street from I-10 to Marina Drive will stay closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Dec. 19 for manhole work—with South 23rd between Bayou Road and near Laurel Avenue remaining closed until Jan. 28 for sewer repairs when emergency vehicles may not pass.
