COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Henry's Place, a local non-profit, is extending its hours to provide 22 beds + a warm shelter for the homeless to avoid the near-freezing and rainy weather, and it will return to normal hours Wednesday while the Salvation Army offers an additional 30 beds.  KFDM
  • On Dec. 4 at 6 p.m., Twin Peaks Beaumont at 3805 Interstate 10 Access Road will distribute 100 free Christmas trees on a first come, first serve basis. Each tree comes with a box of holiday lights + a sleeve of ornaments, and local teams will help load trees into vehicles + Avalanche Food Group organizes the giveaway.  Beaumont Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • McFaddin-Ward House Museum will hold its annual free Holiday Open House on Dec. 6th and Dec. 7th at its Visitor Center at 1906 Calder Avenue — the event features live music, festive treats, children’s activities in Santa’s Craft Workshop, carolers, and a visit from Santa Clause for photos.  FOX 4 Beaumont

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sybil Comeaux, a pioneering leader at Beaumont ISD and the first Black female principal and HR director, passed away peacefully November 23 after a 52-year career. Her funeral service is held today at 10 a.m. at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church—her legacy is remembered by many.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Beaumont Fire Department held its firefighter exam at the Beaumont Event Center Monday morning and saw a record turnout of 338 candidates after removing the dual certification requirement (applicants now need only a high school diploma and be at least 18). The department has nearly 30 vacant positions and will give first priority to candidates with dual certification (a plan that aims to reduce overtime spending).  KFDM
