Beaumont Civic Ballet honored Mary Grace Baker during this season's Nutcracker at the Julie Rogers Theater with live music by the Symphony of Southeast Texas and custom costumes carrying her memory; a private show was held Friday and the public performance runs 2 p.m. today.

Beaumont Classroom Teachers Association opposed a planned TEA takeover of BISD set for early next year, urging increased state funding to support students from low-income families.

TEA Commissioner Mike Morath announced the change in a statement while teacher leaders seek more classroom resources in schools.
