  • Drivers on Beaumont highways face delays during tonight's rush hour as TxDOT cameras track light traffic on U.S. 69 near Mercantile Street and heavy congestion on I-10 westbound near Marina Street (with backups between I-10 and U.S. 90 interchange and Babe Zaharias Park).  Beaumont Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • First Sixth Street Baptist Church in Beaumont will host its 27th anniversary concert and fundraiser with a performance by the Gospel Male Chorus of Southeast Texas. The event follows a recent two week workshop that brought together Golden Triangle churches to learn new songs and will raise funds for Youth Scholarships.  KFDM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Beaumont ISD is moving the Paul Brown Learning Center from its former location near the Babe Zaharias Stadium into the Austin Innovation Center — a move that addresses safety concerns and upgrades facilities, including a dedicated cafeteria. Classes will begin there after winter break, with some transportation changes affecting students.  KFDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • TCEQ fined BASF $111,175 for air pollution violations at its Groves facility after repeated unauthorized emissions between 2021 and 2022. Under the order, part of the fine goes to TCEQ + part funds a Supplemental Environmental Project benefiting the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission.  12 News Now

  • Beaumont resident Frances Bowman gifted a rose to each City Council member, along with the city attorney, city clerk, and city manager at Tuesday’s meeting — a kind gesture amid recent divisions in local government.   • Beaumont emergency rooms report a surge in holiday injuries and home fires caused by cooking mishaps, overloaded outlets, and alcohol use (local officials advise families to follow proper safety measures).  12 News Now
  • In Bridge City, Dr. Brytni Borel partners with United Way to donate free hearing aids for patients who cannot afford them. Nominations for adults in need are open until Jan. 9, with devices scheduled for delivery on Feb. 6.  12 News Now

  • Today, Comet 3I/ATLAS makes its closest approach as dark skies help local skywatchers see faint meteors.
