ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a motorcycle driver died when he lost control on Kiker Drive and hit a stop sign on State Highway 124 before a Chevrolet pickup struck him — troopers said the victim's name will remain confidential until relatives are notified.  KFDM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new hotel—TownePlace Suites by Marriott—is being built at 5450 Rexora Dr. in Beaumont and will feature 96 rooms and an outdoor pool. The four-story building will offer studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites with kitchens, a free continental breakfast, and a pet-friendly policy.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Beaumont’s BBB will host the annual Torch Awards on June 5th to honor local businesses, organizations and individuals for their ethics and integrity—Director of Marketing Bonnie Revia said the event is expected to sell out again.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • A male was fatally shot around 1 a.m. today in the 1400 block of Prairie Avenue off Avenue A—Beaumont police say one person is in custody while the victim remains unidentified.  KFDM
  • Beaumont law enforcement officials are seeking help today to locate Karyn Johnson, a 37-year-old woman wanted in connection with a series of crimes whose specific details remain undisclosed, and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-TIPS or the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at (409) 835-88411.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • A former BISD electrician in Beaumont—who owes more than $1 million—is fighting to keep his probation as Judge Stevens holds a hearing today to decide if he stays free or goes to jail.  KFDM

  • Bridge City Middle School teacher and coach Jimmy Hallman received the Golden Apple Award for his 23-year commitment to education and student success. He spent 11 years in the district and said his passion for teaching began in eighth grade—this award marks the final Golden Apple honor for the current school year.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas lawmakers are considering House Bill 2844, which would create one permit and one health inspection for food trucks statewide to replace the current county-by-county system — some owners say it will lower costs while others worry it may remove valuable local checks.
