Myles Horne—a 17-year-old from Beaumont—was indicted on Wednesday for murder and aggravated robbery after police charged him in the fatal shooting of 63-year-old Terry Lee Thompson, who was riding a motorized bicycle during an attempted robbery on May 7 on the 1300 block of Pipkin Street.
Tekoa Academy superintendent Princess Chretien, from the only school in the region to earn an 'A' rating, said she supports a Texas House bill that would end the annual STAAR test in favor of three smaller exams to better track student progress — the bill now moves to the Senate for further review. This new testing schedule, which Tekoa already uses, aims to reflect that every child learns differently.
Gift of Life is offering free prostate cancer screenings for men in Lumberton, Orange, Port Arthur, and Beaumont this June and July.
