Beaumont held its annual Fallen Officers Memorial ceremony at police headquarters yesterday, May 14, where members of the Beaumont Police Department & families honored 20 officers who died in the line of duty from 1881 to 2020 by laying bouquets and wreaths at the memorial base.

Myles Horne—a 17-year-old from Beaumont—was indicted on Wednesday for murder and aggravated robbery after police charged him in the fatal shooting of 63-year-old Terry Lee Thompson, who was riding a motorized bicycle during an attempted robbery on May 7 on the 1300 block of Pipkin Street.

Tekoa Academy superintendent Princess Chretien, from the only school in the region to earn an 'A' rating, said she supports a Texas House bill that would end the annual STAAR test in favor of three smaller exams to better track student progress — the bill now moves to the Senate for further review. This new testing schedule, which Tekoa already uses, aims to reflect that every child learns differently.
