COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers in Beaumont face delays this evening on I-10 west starting at the U.S. 90 interchange near Pine Street and continuing past Babe Zaharias Park, with slower traffic also on U.S. 69 north between South 4th and Warren Street and on I-10 east near Walden Road until traffic eases after Washington Boulevard.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • A vigil honoring Charlie Kirk was held Friday at Port Neches Riverfront Park, and former councilman Mike Getz has organized another vigil for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the old Market Basket on Phelan to feature speeches and prayers. This event marks a community effort to remember Kirk for his commitment to open discourse.  KFDM
  • Lamar University’s first Big Red’s Roundup is taking place today at the Spindletop Boomtown Museum — the event offers family-friendly activities such as a Community Resiliency Showcase from 12 to 5, rodeo games from 3 to 4, mutton bustin' from 4 to 5, professional bull riding from 5 to 7:30, and live music from 7:30 to 10 with general admission at $10 while kids 12 and under and LU students with campus IDs get in free.   • Acadian Ambulance Service is offering a 12-week EMS training course in Beaumont with tuition discounted by 75%—graduates may receive job placement, tuition reimbursement and career growth opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont City Councilmember Joey Hilliard said he is working with all involved parties to silence train horns in quiet zones by updating railroad crossing barriers so the city meets federal standards, though Union Pacific stated train conductors will continue sounding their horns until the barrier work is complete.  KFDM
  • City leaders in Beaumont have proposed Prop D on the $264 million bond to extend Riverfront Park along the Neches River by adding new amenities such as an amphitheater, splash pad, and public gathering spaces—built on higher ground near the rail yard. If passed by voters on the November ballot, the $12.49 million project will reconnect the community with the river and offer new opportunities for family activities.  Beaumont Enterprise

  • On Friday night, West Brook Bruins stayed unbeaten with a 49 to 14 win over Silsbee at Doggett Family Stadium—quarterback Tam Anderson threw for 223 yards and four touchdowns as the Bruins improved to 4 to 0 with strong offensive and defensive plays.  Beaumont Enterprise
