Beaumont City Council will again consider ending Saturday Zip service at 6 p.m.

Council weighs Zip changes weeks after the dozer vote

  1. Oct. 20Council approved the nearly $795,000 landfill dozer, 6-1.
  2. Nov. 3Council will again consider the plan.
  3. Dec. 7Zip route changes and shorter Saturday hours would start if approved.

If you ride the , today's City Council meeting matters. Council will again consider a plan that would change routes and stop Saturday bus service at 6 p.m. The agenda also includes vehicle and equipment purchases and water and sewer ordinances.

  • Saturday service: would end at 6 p.m.
  • Start date: Dec. 7, if council approves
  • Old dozer: a 2014 Caterpillar D8T
  • Dozer funding: already budgeted in the Solid Waste Fund

Equipment buys drew debate last time. On Oct. 20, council approved a John Deere dozer for the landfill. Councilman cast the only no vote, saying staff hadn't done enough due diligence on used equipment. City Manager Chris Boone called the lease-or-buy questions fair.

The new dozer costs nearly $795,000 and passed 6-1
